Frequently Asked Questions

Are you seeing people in person?

Yes, we strictly follow Saskatchewan guidelines for safe, in-person sessions. Currently, masks are mandatory at all times. We also offer telephone and video counselling services.

Are you a Christian or Secular counselling service?

We are not a Christian counselling centre; however, we are curious with clients about their faith journey as part of a systemic approach to counselling. We also have staff who are trained and available to offer Christian counselling if requested.

Can I use my insurance to access services?

Possibly, our staff are registered with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists or Canadian Certified Counsellors with CCPA. Clients are responsible for verifying their insurance benefits including: counsellor credentials and annual counselling allowance. Some insurance providers can be direct billed; however, most often clients are required to pay for their service and submit receipts to their insurance company.

What does a 'Sliding Scale Fee Option' mean?

We strive to provide accessible services for everyone. If you do not have insurance, and the regular rate is out of your means, you can talk to a counsellor about a lower fee for service based on your annual household income.

How long does counselling last? How many sessions should I expect?

Counselling is a personal journey. The length of time varies considerably and is often based on a few considerations such as: how much time does your insurance provide, what is your presenting struggle, what are your goals for counselling etc… We will discuss this at your first session and determine together what amount of time is right for you.

How do I find your office?

Great question! We are located in the Moose Jaw Alliance Church. Park in the parking lot facing 9th ave. Go through the main office door. There is a sign that says ‘Church Office’. Take your first right into the main church offices. Your counsellor will aim to meet you as you arrive. Please arrive not more than 5 minutes early so your counsellor has time to sanitize between sessions.

Counselling is a personal journey of discovery and growth. There are as many styles of counselling as there are people. Our counsellors practice from a systemic perspective which considers how the role of other people and systems influence people’s lives and vice versa. Other supporting models of therapy we use are Narrative, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Counselling and consulting support is available to families with infants, preschoolers, and school-age children. Services often start with a telephone consultation. During this session, the parent/caregiver will explore the challenging behaviour with the counsellor and identify goals for desirable behaviour. Strategies to address the behaviour are discussed. Often, a combination of caregiver counselling and behaviour consultation is most effective. The direction of support is collaborative with the counsellor and remains flexible throughout the process.
